The Junction ‘Elfs Out’ Arts Sector with Christmas Commission

One of Northern Ireland’s largest outdoor retail schemes has commissioned a leading arts organisation for a bespoke Christmas performance, giving a festive boost to the beleaguered Arts sector.

The Junction has recruited the creatively renowned team at Cahoots NI to create its very own Christmas Panto, which will be performed as a Drive-In spectacle over three days in December, in support of the NI Children’s Hospice.

Elves’ Got Talent, in conjunction with Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council and Arts and Business NI, will feature some of Northern Ireland’s hottest acting talent, including Philippa O’ Hara and Sean Kearns, as well as the creative direction of Paul Bosco Mc Eneaney.

Running from Friday 18th – Sunday 20th December, the 30-minute show will run three times daily, with all proceeds from the £10 per car booking fee going direct to the NI Children’s Hospice as part of its Jingle All The Way fundraising campaign.

Chris Flynn, Centre Director at The Junction, Antrim said: “2020 has been a tough year for all and we wanted to ensure that Christmas, while potentially being different than other years, wasn’t cancelled for customers of The Junction and Antrim residents who have seen the local events calendar wiped clean.

“We knew that families were in danger of missing out on the annual tradition of going to the Panto and having seen the success of Drive-In cinemas this year, we saw a way to deliver that live Panto experience, in a socially distanced, safe way. The team at Cahoots NI was our first port of call, and we’re so excited to have been able to work with them to create something totally unique and not-before-seen. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the NI Children’s Hospice so we hope for a sell-out weekend.”

Paul Mc Eneaney, Artistic Director of Cahoots NI said: “This year has been really difficult for the arts sector with little to no work being commissioned, leaving organisations like Cahoots NI and our country’s amazing acting talent bereft. We were thrilled to get this festive commission from the team at The Junction, not only to get our employees back to doing what they love but to bring joy and fun to families at a time when they need it most. We have something special lined up – a real Christmas spectacle – that’s sure to be the talk of the town.”

Maeve McKervey, Head of Business, Arts & Business NI, added: “Arts & Business NI were delighted to support the new partnership between Cahoots NI and The Junction.  The innovative Cahoots NI Drive-In show ‘Elves Got Talent’ will provide employment for 16 local creatives, during a very difficult period for our local Arts sector. We wish both partners every success with the magical Drive-In spectacle and look forward to seeing this partnership develop in the future.”
